Expansion Joints

Expansion joints are often designed into piping systems to allow for thermal expansion due to high-temperature substances being conveyed, such as steam or exhaust gases, or to absorb movement and vibration created by mechanical components like pumps and valves. Typical expansion joints consist of flange connections with a convoluted PTFE bellows supported by root rings and constrained by tie rods and limit sleeves. The convolutions in the bellows plays an important role in the function of the joint, with the shape designed to withstand internal pressure but flexible enough to absorb axial, lateral, and angular movements. The PTFE material offers excellent chemical resistance and can handle a wide range of temperatures, making them ideal for use in corrosive environments.
Tenn-Plast, Inc. carries PTFE expansion joints from 1” thru 24” size and from 1 convolutions up to 5 convolutions.
